V. vdv Discussion starter · Apr 4, 2007. I have the opportunity to pick up a W123 Mercedes-Benz 300D through a family friend and the price is very right at $0. Slushbox, as expected. Motor has an undiagnosed problem but it runs and everything else supposedly works fine.

Some 2.3L, 2.5L, and 2.8L gassers will work as well. There have been a few lucky people to shoehorn a 5.6L V8 into the W123 (Not a drop in swap ). The BIGGEST problem *you* have is your TD's rear hydraulic suspension. The 300TD's OM617 has a unique cylinder head to mount a timing chain driven pump.

#3 · Nov 29, 2011 The engine swaps are limited only by your imagination and capability. You can put a small block Chevy V8 in there, if you wanted. It would be silly, but it can be done. As mentioned, the best update would be a turbo 617 engine, but also go for an 82+ auto trans, they're better.

4,031. Location. In the workshop. Car. S124 E300d wagon, W124 om606 monster, E46 v8 coupe. Alot would depend on how deep you want the conversion to go, a 117 running in a S124 isnt that hard but you need to consider other things like brakes, suspension, rear axle ect.

#21 · Mar 6, 2006 You will need to buy the whole car. There is MUCH to consider. You'll need the transmission, radiator, driveshaft (to convert), brake booster, fuel pump assy., power steering lines and shifter linkage (to customize), all the relays and modules, and the wiring that connects each.

The M117 was an all alloy overhead cam V8 that started production in the 1971 W108 chassis, and was built all the way through 1991 in the W126 S-Class. No word from the seller on the donor car, but this would be rated as high as 261 horsepower from the factory, with more power on tap if you are into that kind of thing.

It's not his first W123, but with the engine being almost gone, it was a great starting point for the project. The engine fits snugly under the hood, almost looking stock. JYT smartly opted to use all of the Toyota's electronics and throw out most of the Mercedes stuff. It made it easier to get the engine working properly, plus it should.

Before any of you cringe at the thought, The previous owner used it to haul his dogs and it had 354K miles on it when the speedo stopped working 2 years ago, so it has served a good life but and is far from a cream puff. The engine is already gone and I want to put a V8 in.

removing the differential on an w123 is a tad harder than on a w115, or maybe it is just that i am more familiar with the way the w115 works.. if you get the diff from a v8 from a w116, w126 or r107 you will have to swap the yoke/flange. either you change, and do it by feel, or get a shop/or yourself to correctly torque tighten it in place.
